Office of Medical Assistance Programs; Funeral Director Services Fee Increase

   As provided in 55 Pa. Code § 1150.61(a), the Department of Public Welfare (Department) announces that effective July 3, 2000, it will increase the fees listed in the Medical Assistance (MA) Program Fee Schedule for services rendered by funeral directors. Specifically, effective July 3, 2000, the Department will increase the maximum payment available for burial and/or cremation to $750 if there are no resources that reduce the payment. Further, the Department will eliminate the sliding scale payment based on the age of the deceased. The specific changes to the MA Program Fee Schedule are as follows:

   The Department is implementing these changes to the MA Program Fee Schedule in conjunction with the Notice of Rule Change published June 10, 2000 (30 Pa.B. 2957). In this Notice, the Department has changed the requirements of 55 Pa. Code § 285.3(d) and (e) relating to maximum payment amounts for burial and/or cremation when there are no resources to reduce the payment. Neither the change to the MA Program Fee Schedule nor the Rule Change affect any other requirement relating to the payment for burial and/or cremation services.

   The fiscal note was prepared under provision of section 612 of The Administrative Code of 1929 (71 P. S. § 232).
