Medical Professional Liability Catastrophe Loss Fund; Surcharge Filing

[31 Pa.B. 5767]

   The Medical Professional Liability Catastrophe Loss Fund has filed for a 50% surcharge under the Health Care Services Malpractice Act (40 P. S. §§ 1301.101--1301.1006), commonly known as Act 111, as amended by Act 135 of 1996.

   The filing indicates the following:

   ''This year's surcharge percentage calculation is premised on the Joint Underwriting Association's Rates approved as of this date [September 28, 2001], and effective January 1, 2002.''

   The surcharge applies to any policies effective on or after January 1, 2002.

   Copies of the filing are available for public inspection during normal working hours at the Insurance Department's regional offices in Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Erie.

   Interested parties are invited to submit written comments, suggestions or objections to Ken Creighton, ACAS, Insurance Department, Bureau of Regulation of Rates and Policies, 1311 Strawberry Square, Harrisburg, PA 17120, e-mail at kcreighton@state.pa.us within 15 days after publication of this notice in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
