Corrections to Notice of Public Meeting on Existing Use Classifications of Streams

[31 Pa.B. 705]

On January 20, 2001 (31 Pa.B. 467) the Department published notice of a public meeting on the classification of certain streams for existing use protection under the Department's antidegradation program. The Department has become aware of a number of errors in the listing of streams included in that notice.

The designated use and segment limits for Letort Spring Run, Cumberland County were listed incorrectly. The designated use that was included in the table was for the segment immediately upstream of the segment under consideration, rather than the segment to be protected as High Quality-Cold Water Fishes (HQ-CWF). In addition, the upper segment limit should have been the same as the current listing in the Water Quality Standards (25 Pa. Code § 93.9o). The correct entry for Letort Spring Run is:

StreamWaterDesignatedExistingDate of
CountyCodeBodyUseUseQualifierLocationEvaluation
Cumberland10261 Letort Spring Run CWF HQ-CWF Designated Class A Wild Trout Basin, Railroad Bridge at Letort Park to Post Road Bridge6/15/00

Three streams/segments on the list have been determined to have uses less restrictive than the designated use. These streams should not be included because they must be protected at their designated use until it is revised by the Environmental Quality Board and subject to public participation. These streams/segments have been deleted from the list: Grimes Run, Clearfield County, basin; Furnace Run, Lebanon/Lancaster Counties, basin--SR 1026 to mouth; Swatara Creek, Lebanon/Schuylkill Counties, main stem--confluence of Lower Little Swatara Creek to Green Point Station (River Mile 46.9).

The public meeting to explain the Department's existing use protection program and respond to questions will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2001 in the auditorium (2nd floor) of the Rachel Carson State Office Building, 400 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA.
