Alternative Fuels Incentive Program; Program Opportunity Notice

   The Department of Environmental Protection (Department), Bureau of Energy, Innovations and Technology Deployment announces an opportunity to apply for grants under the Alternative Fuels Incentive Program to expand the use of biodiesel and ethanol, when used in E85, which is an alternative fuel comprised of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.

   Grant funds awarded under the Alternative Fuels Incentive Program can be used to cover the added cost to purchase E85 or biodiesel. Eligible applicants include tax-exempt entities such as school districts, local government agencies, transit authorities, colleges and universities and nonprofit entities. Eligible applicants requesting funding for the purchase of biodiesel or E85 may be eligible for funding to install refueling equipment. Commonwealth producers of biodiesel or ethanol used in E85 are eligible for a reimbursement of $.05 a gallon for up to 12.500 million gallons covering a 12-month period. Project costs cannot be incurred before the submittal of an application during the grant open opportunity time period.

The application package is also available electronically on the Department's website at www.depweb.state.pa.us (DEP Keywords ''Alternative Fuels''). The deadline for submitting an application to the Department is by 4 p.m. October 2, 2006.
