Stream Redesignation Evaluation of Grinnage Run; Water Quality Standards Review

Basin, Source to Confluence with Grays Fork

   Under 25 Pa. Code § 93.4d (relating to processing of petitions, evaluations and assessments to change a designed use) the Department of Environmental Protection (Department) gives notice that an evaluation will be conducted on the stream section listed to determine the proper aquatic life use designation in this Commonwealth's Water Quality Standards.

   Persons who have technical data concerning the water quality, instream habitat or biological condition of this stream section are encouraged to make it available to the Department for consideration in the assessment. This assessment may lead to a recommendation to the Environmental Quality Board (Board) for redesignation.

   Data should be submitted to Tony Shaw, Division of Water Quality Standards, Bureau of Water Standards and Facility Regulation, P. O. Box 8467, Harrisburg, PA 17105-8467, Data should be submitted no later than September 10, 2007. Questions concerning this evaluation can be directed to Tony Shaw at (717) 787-9637.

   This assessment is being conducted in response to a rulemaking petition submitted to the Board by Civil and Environmental Consultants, Inc., on behalf of Consol Pennsylvania Coal Company. On October 17, 2006, the Board accepted the rulemaking petition for study under 25 Pa. Code Chapter 23 (relating to Environmental Quality Board policy for processing petitions--statement of policy). The Grinnage Run basin is currently designated High Quality-Warm Water Fishes (HQ-WWF), as identified in 25 Pa. Code § 93.9v (relating to Drainage List V). The petitioner is requesting that the Grinnage Run basin, from its source to the confluence with Grays Fork, be redesignated as WWF.

   The referenced petition is available to the public by contacting the Environmental Quality Board, P. O. Box 8477, Harrisburg, PA 17105-8477, (717) 787-4526, and is also accessible on the Department's website (DEP Keywords: EQB (EQB Meeting Agendas/Handouts/Minutes; 2006; October 17, 2006)).
