Additional Class of Disproportionate Share Payments; Final Public Notice

   The purpose of this announcement is to provide final public notice of the Department of Public Welfare's (Department) establishment of an additional class of disproportionate share (DSH) payment for certain qualifying hospitals.

   The Department published a notice at 30 Pa.B. 6013 (November 18, 2000). This notice detailed an additional class of DSH payments for certain hospitals, which the Department has determined advance the Department's goal of enhanced access to multiple types of medical care in economically distressed areas of this Commonwealth. The Department received two comments in response to the public notice. The Department has duly considered the comments received and following extensive review of the issues, the Department has decided to implement the additional class of DSH as originally proposed. The Department has responded directly to those who filed comments.

   This additional class of DSH payments is effective January 1, 2001.

Funds are included in the budget for this purpose.
