Public Health Council Meeting Relating to the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant

 The Public Health Council will hold a public meeting (teleconference call) on June 22, 2015, at the Department of Health, Health and Welfare Building, Room 1000, Harrisburg, PA 17120, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant (Grant) Federal Fiscal Year 2015 Application and Work Plan.

 The Grant is authorized under Part A of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C.A. §§ 300w—300w-9), and is used to support clinical services, preventive screening, laboratory support, outbreak control, workforce training, public education, data surveillance and program evaluation targeting health problems such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, emergency medical services, injury and violence prevention, infectious disease, environmental health, community fluoridation and sex offenses. In addition, the Grant is used to address emerging health issues and gaps, decrease premature death and disabilities by focusing on the leading preventable risk factors, achieve health equity and eliminate health disparities by addressing the social determinants of health, support local programs to achieve healthy communities, and establish data and surveillance systems to monitor the health status of targeted populations.
