DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND NATURAL RESOURCES

Proposed Exchange of Property

[51 Pa.B. 3761]
[Saturday, July 10, 2021]

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (Department), acting through the Bureau of Forestry (Bureau), and Alan Metzler are proposing to negotiate an exchange of property interests in Milford Township, Juniata County and Brown and Armagh Townships, Mifflin County.

The exchange would involve approximately 135 acres currently owned by Alan Metzler which is adjoining the Tuscarora State Forest. The Bureau intends to trade 118 acres in the Rothrock State Forest, which is bounded on its southern boundary by Alan Metzler. Alan Metzler is a partial owner of the tract that fully borders these State forest lands to the north. This parcel is a small narrow, peninsula of public lands that is surrounded by private lands and does not provide great opportunity for the public. The land to be acquired is surrounded on two sides by the Tuscarora State Forest and is adjacent to the Karl Guss State Forest Picnic Area. It is one of three tracts in an interior warrant completely surrounded by State forest. The only access to this tract is by State forest roads. The exchange will further consolidate public ownership of this forested landscape and is consistent with the Bureau's land acquisition goals.

As is the policy of the Department, the public is hereby notified of this exchange. A 30-day period for public inquiry or comment will be in effect beginning July 10, 2021, and ending August 8, 2021. Oral or written comments or questions concerning this proposed exchange may be addressed to Tom Stahl, Planning Section, Bureau of Forestry, P.O. Box 8552, Harrisburg, PA 17105-8552, thstahl@pa.gov, (717) 772-0268. Oral or written comments will become part of the official document used in the final decision process. Written documents are also available regarding the proposed land exchange by request.

If, in the duration of the 30-day comment period, a significant amount of public concern develops, the Secretary of the Department may schedule a public informational meeting.

CINDY ADAMS DUNN,
Secretary
